These years are difficult for most young people and their families. It is hard for parents and caretakers to know how to intervene or talk to their children in these betwixt and between years. No one escapes the push-pull of these years and the discomfort in trying and wanting to be a part of something. Children have more stress in their lives than ever before. They have so much to contend with including social media, grades and school demands, athletic commitments, college preparation and entrance, peer and sexual pressure, self esteem, people pleasing...the list goes on.
Typical signs of distress include slipping grades, unexplained school tardiness or absences, weight loss or gain, body aches, and social withdrawl. These are only a few of the many ways children let us know that their world is unmanageable. Encourage your child to express themselves in a safe environment.
